M.B.A……Management by Being Around

During a farm tour during University, local poultry veterinarian, the late Dr Lloyd Weber, used this phrase on our student group. The point he was making was the best way to know what’s going on, and to get ahead of problems, is by being around.

That’s one lesson I want to put into practice if elected. SMT (Senior Management Team) at the township meets weekly on Mondays. I would make it a practice to attend the meetings regularly. It strengthens the link between Council and Staff. And makes sure that the Council Agenda informs everyone and deals with the right issues- the important issues- at the right time.

That’s not to say the Mayor should run the meeting, or day to day operations. Governance exists for a reason, and Council directs the CAO who then directs staff. But Management by Being Around seems like a helpful idea as we look to run a tighter ship in Woolwich.

Leadership matters.
