The number one topic of this election is finances. How do we make better use of our tax dollars and better use of our assets? That said, if your house roof is leaking, you don’t simply say there isn’t the budget to fix it—the roof has to get fixed, and fixed properly.
Lately, we have had too many surprises. My commitment to Woolwich as Mayor is this:
1) Maintain a visible and public 10-year ongoing capital budget for our assets. We need to know what’s coming. Like our family budget, planning matters. And when we make a purchase, make sure we are getting value in what we buy.
2) Efficient use of our current assets—use what we have.
3) Right-size our operations for today’s world. Accountability and responsibility matter—we need this as part of our township culture.
4) Work better with our residents. People volunteer to help keep our community beautiful. Pruning trees, spring cleanup of parks, running community rinks—it all makes a difference. Let’s accept the help, make tax dollars go further, and say Thank you! Too often we put up roadblocks instead of helping community volunteers.
Planning, getting value for our tax dollars, and working together to keep building our community will make Woolwich a better home for us all.
